Your Body Doesn't Absorb The Calcium in Spinach

Yes, we know spinach is low in calories and a great anti aging food. It has alot of vitamins and minerals, especially calcium and iron.

Calcium and iron are anti aging stars in helping us guard against cancer and fight aging. If you depend on spinach to provide you calcium and iron, be warned.

Spinach contains a chemical called oxalic acid. Oxalic acid binds with iron and calcium and thus reduces the absorption of these minerals.

However, there's a way to get around it. Eat spinach with vitamin C foods such as tomatoes or any citrus fruit. Vitamin C helps your body absorp the minerals more efficiently.

With that said, spinach is a great source of vitamin A which is beneficial to your vision. Vitamin A in spinach also assists in slowing down the onset of wrinkly skin and helps you fight aging. Just 1-2 cups of spinach every other day provides the nutrients necessary to a healthy immune system. A healthy immune system may help to minimize the number of visits to the doctor.

A cup of cooked spinach also provides a host of anti-aging vitamins and minerals such as riboflavin, vitamin B6, Folate, magnesium, and carotenoids such as beta carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin.

We're crazy about spinach. There is a great restuarant close by where we get a fresh spinach omelet with Gouda cheese.
It's great. we have to split it because it is so big.

Spinach is a great for you. Any dark green leafy vegetables are the best. This is where we get our minerals from and is great for your skin. I have psoriasis and did much research on this. I add it when ever I can.

I agree that spinach is a great source of minerals but its not correct to consume only spinach in your daily diet. Its very necessary to take all nutrients from every type of fruits and vegetables.

Spinach is a fantastic food and anyone who disagrees - needs to research nutrition a little further.

However, while it's got great anti-aging vitamins/minerals and antioxidants, they are low level antioxidants. You're best bet if anti-aging is you're goal, is to find items (for example: the Gac fruit) where the bioavailability of carotenoid antioxidants is extremely high.

I've never been a huge fan of spinach but after reading this post I have begun to sprinkle spinach into my diet. I have been altering my diet slightly in recent because I want to fight aging effects. Obviously vegeatables and foods rich in antioxidants are best. But one thing I've been wondering...are superfoods like acai helpful with anti-aging????

Spinach is great but if you have someone in the family who is suffering from osteoporosis and thus you may have it one day, then spinach is not good for you. Spinach has high levels of oxalate which prevents calcium from absorption.

Spinach is a great vegetable that has soooo many anti aging properties.
